WHY USE A RECRUITER?
I sometimes hear people advise others to NOT use a recruiter when searching for a job. Sure, you can probably find a teaching job in Korea on your own but how would using a recruiter hurt your job search? If anything, it vastly improves your chances of finding a better job, as you will have access to many more available teaching positions.
REMEMBER! It is you, the teacher, who can accept or decline any job offer. If the conditions are good, you can take the job. If the conditions are not to your liking, you can easily refuse. We always get you in touch with a teacher at the school so you can get an idea of what working there will be like.
You should also understand that 80-90% of the schools in Korea hire a teacher through a recruiter. This has no bearing on the quality of the school. The vast majority of these schools use a recruiter because they don't want to spend the time and energy that it takes to find a teacher on their own.
Another major inaccuracy that I hear is that people can negotiate a better contract if they get hired directly by a school rather than through a recruiter. This again is NOT TRUE as when we compare the teaching positions that are offered by recruiters and compare them to the jobs that are offered directly from schools, the conditions are very similar. Maybe ask yourself why a school wouldn't use a recruiter if their goal is to find a good teacher rather than saving some money. We have found that a lot of schools that are too cheap to use a recruiter will also be very cheap to the teacher that they hire. Some of these schools will do whatever's necessary to cut corners to make an extra buck.
So why do recruiters have such a negative reputation in Korea? Probably because most are looking at recruiting as a short-term business and trying to make a quick buck rather than trying to build a solid business with a great reputation. Also, I believe that there are many inexperienced recruiters that simply do not know enough about the schools that they are placing their teachers at. They may not realize that you are walking into a bad situation.
WHY USE RBI? WHY NOT? IT'S FREE!
Every recruiter will tell you how professional they are but what does that really mean? How does this benefit you in any way?
At RBI, our MAIN GOAL is to place you at a PROVEN GOOD school in BUSAN. We want you to have an enjoyable and worry-free year in Busan so that you'll use our services again and recommend us to your friends. We want to give you as much information as possible so you can make and informed decision before signing a contract.
I'm a Canadian teacher and I've been living and teaching in Busan since 2000. My wife was born in Busan and has been recruiting since 2003. We are very familiar with the job market in Busan.
We are one of the largest and oldest recruiting companies in Busan. Not only do we place more teachers in Busan than any other recruiter, but we know all of the schools in town, so we can help you with your job search. We have a long list of GOOD schools that we can recommend as well as a 'black list' of BAD schools that that you should definitely avoid. We recommend schools that have a history of treating teachers well, offer nice living accommodations, and where we've received good reviews from the teachers that have worked there. We will also send you pictures and get you in contact with a teacher working at the school so you should know exactly what to expect when you arrive in Korea.
And we're in Busan to help you out if any problems arise!
We can't guarantee that we'll find you a job if you apply, but if we do place you, we'll try our best to find you a good school.
Thank you,
Don Lee
